THE PROCESS BEGINS AT A "SELECTION DAY" TWO MONTHS BEFORE , ON THIS DAY, WE ARE ASKED TO PICK 5 ART PIECES WITH A 1-5 DEGREE OF PREFERENCE. 1ST , 2ND CHOICE .... ONE OF WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY BE ASSIGNED TO YOU A MONTH BEFORE THE ACTUAL EXHIBIT.
"THE LIMITED" , 1931 BY REGINALD MARSH (1898-1954) TEMPERA ON CANVASS , DEPICTING ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS STEAM ROLLER TRAIN OF THE ERA,THE PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD BROADWAY THE LIMITED, I BELIEVE WAS MY FIRST CHOICE, WHEN I PICKED THIS PAINTING, I HAD A DESIGN IDEA AND MATERIALS I WOULD BE USING IN MIND, HOW I WOULD EXECUTE IT WAS ANOTHER STORY AND WAS TO BE DEALT WITH LATER ON. I KNEW I WANTED SOME "SMOKE" LIKE STUFF TO HOVER ABOVE THE TRAIN.THE CHALLENGE WAS HOW TO FLOAT THE PLUMES , THAT IMAGE I SAW IN MY MIND .TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE EVENT "DING DING DING DING !! AN EPIPHANY - TAP PLASTIC" IN SAN MATEO. A GO TO PLACE FOR FLORAL AND EVENT PLANNERS AND I FOUND OUT LATELY CATERERS, FOR CUSTOM MADE CONTAINERS.
I THOUGHT OF GIVING AN ILLUSION OF THE PLUMES BY MAKING BALLS OF BABY'S BREATHE TIGHTLY CLUSTERED TOGETHER AND RAISING THEM ON TOP ROWS OF RECTANULAR VASES WITH THIN RODS OF CLEAR ACRYLIC WOULD GIVE IT THE EFFECT OF BEING SUSPENDED .THE RECTANGULAR VASES WILL BE LINED WITH REDDISH DOGWOOD BRANCHES AND PAVE'D WITH FLOWERS IN THE COLORS OF THE TRAIN'S.REDDISH BROWNS AND MUTED ORANGES..BELOW ARE IMAGES OF THE FINSIHED PROJECT.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
